Alt Text

What is image alt text in SEO?

The image tag in HTML allows you to add a number of additional attributes that the browser should assign to the image. The alt text is what is displayed if the browser has disabled images or if a person is using a screenreader to consume your content.

<img src="image.jpg" alt="your alt text goes here" />

From an SEO point of view, Google counts alt text as the anchor text, so if you use images to link to other pages in your site, make sure they have appropriate alt tags relevant to the page you are linking to.

The ‘alt’ attribute in the image tag is often mislabelled as the alt tag. The <img> text is the tag and the ‘alt’ part is the attribute assigned to the image tag.
