QDF – Query Deserves Freshness

What is QDF in SEO?

QDF, or Query Deserves Freshness, detects when the searcher is attempting to access information that is fresh and current and readjusts the ranking pages in the SERP to give priority to those that more closely approximate the most recent search intent.

Example: if you searched for a celebrity who just got a divorce, then the top results would be about their divorce and not about what that celebrity is known for. If that celebrity is an actor and they have a new film coming out, the results will change from the divorce and instead show reviews and news about the upcoming film.

If you had done the same search for the same celebrity weeks ago the SERP results did not include any reference to their divorce and in a few more weeks those results will disappear from the SERPs as the news cycle continues to churn out content about their new film or whichever life event (new partner, new baby, etc.) they transition through next that causes a sudden rise in interest for search queries featuring their names.
